Pitch-based carbon materials

Pitch-based carbon materials
  • Petroleum by-products, which are the raw materials for pitch-based carbon materials, are highly refined and contain few impurities and high carbon content
  • Most of the carbon materials used in Korea are wood-based and palm kernel-based activated carbons, most of which are imported from China, while pitch-based activated carbon, a high-quality carbon material, is imported entirely from the United States and Japan.
  • It can be applied to various industries by processing petroleum by-products generated in Korea into high-quality carbon materials through recycling.
  • SMARTKOREA has secured "pitch-based activated carbon production" technology through continuous R&D with "Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT)" via technology transfer.
